One to One Development Trust created a major new Virtual Reality work commissioned for the Index Festival working with members of local community groups including Wakefield Sight Aid, Lupset Syrian Women's Group, and young people from Airedale Library to create a magical garden full of the participants virtual sculptures and artwork.
The Virtual Sculpture Garden project ran between April - September 2019, launching at Wakefield Cathedral as part of Artwalk Wakefield.
Each group has a different area of the garden they designed – the Syrian women’s group were keen on blossom trees and water, they wanted a healing space with birds and at night they wanted to illuminate the trees with lanterns like they have in Syria. The young people wanted to make their own rocks above the garden demonstrating their own safe spaces, and participants from Wakefield Sight Aid wanted to ensure the pathways were lit up and smooth to travel along, and liked the tactile nature of the plants.
