A unique interactive workshop to combine floating sculptures and synchronised swimming. Events will involve elements of live performance as well as the chance to swim with artist Yelena Popova’s work. Suitable for all ages.
Remember to bring your swimming costume and a towel!
Attendance is free and includes an interactive workshop and swimming with the artwork in the pool. Spaces are limited, so please reserve your free ticket early to avoid disappointment.
The will be full lifeguard supervision for this event, but attendees are expected to have basic swimming ability, and parents and carers attending with children should ensure their children are confident in the water.
This event will be documented by the artist in film and video - if you would not like to be included in this footage then please contact Simon Boase before or during the event. Images will not be put anywhere online or in the public domain without your permission.
The Sculpture
Artist Yelena Popova developed the work 'Townlets' from the diagram of a plutonium atom. Cut from foam, the visualised atom’s component parts form an interactive game in which structures are built, knocked down, and creatively re-built at will. This sculpture and game is now to be placed in the new setting of the local swimming pool, where all can come and enjoy.
Generously supported by Wakefield Council.
This event is free but a ticket is required for anyone who wishes to get in to pool. Those wishing to watch the performance only do not need a ticket.
