COPY - EVERYTHING BUT THE BATHING SUIT - Alex Sarkisian and Bahar Yürükoğlu

Copy are pleased to launch the sixth in their ongoing series of publications everything but the bathing suit, featuring artists Alex Sarkisian and Bahar Yürükoğlu. everything but the bathing suit brings together images and text developed throughout the artists’ collaborative practice, which began when they met as ship bunkmates on residency in the Arctic Circle and continued to an inverse archipelago in Panama.

Photographs of ambiguous surfaces, placeless views and figures of uncertain identity come together in the book with transcribed conversations that are at times both unfiltered and concealed to explore confinement, dislocation and voyeurism. Veering between critical reflections, environmental descriptions to nonsense, the texts act as image descriptions, capturing and distorting moments in time throughout their journeys.

Copy is a Yorkshire-based publishing platform often operating at the intersection of visual art, writing and performance. Copy publications feature new work experimenting widely with text, image, narrative, language, pages, reading and the translation of time-based and site-specific practices to the published form. They have previously produced publications in partnership with Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Wakefield; Site Gallery, Sheffield; 20-21 Visual Arts Centre; Scunthorpe and Wild Pansy Press Project Space, Leeds.
